ย้อนอ่าน Alex Albon Driver’s Journal EP.1 – Back in Office
สวัสดีครับทุกคน ผมกลับมาแล้วกับบันทึกนักแข่ง และมีหลายอย่างมากที่อยากจะคุยกับทุกคน ผมมีโอกาสอ่านข้อความและคอมเมนต์ทุกคอมเมนต์หลังจากที่ผมเขียนบันทึกนักแข่งฉบับแรกของผม ขอบคุณสำหรับการอ่านและการสนับสนุนผมตลอดการเดินทางร่วมกันปีนี้ ผมอยากให้ทุกคนช่วยกันส่งข้อความเข้ามาเยอะๆ อย่างต่อเนื่องนะครับ!
จากบันทึกแรกของผม ผมได้โอกาสกลับเข้าไปสู่สนามแข่งขัน และขับรถสูตรหนึ่งอีกครั้งช่วงปิดฤดูกาลที่ผ่านมา เป็นช่วงฤดูหนาวที่ค่อนข้างสั้น แต่รู้สึกเหมือนกับเป็นช่วงเวลานานที่ไม่ได้นั่งในรถแข่ง
ดังนั้นนี่เป็นโอกาสที่ดีที่จะได้กลับมาฝึกซ้อมในสนามแข่งอีกครั้ง และรื้อฟื้นความทรงจำ กล้ามเนื้อ และกลับคืนสู่ความเร็วที่เคยชิน ทีม Atlassian Williams Racing ของเราทำการทดสอบด้วยรถ F1 รุ่นเก่า สำหรับผมและเพื่อนร่วมทีม คาร์ลอส ไซน์ซ
ผมบินไปบาร์เซโลนาพร้อมกับ แจ็ค ผู้จัดการของผม และ แพคทริก โค้ชด้าน Performance เป็นโอกาสดีที่วงทำงานของเราได้กลับมารวมตัวกันอีกครั้งเพื่อร่วมงานกัน เป็นที่ที่อากาศหนาว แต่โค้ชของผมเป็นคนไอริชที่มักจะใส่กางเกงขาสั้น ไม่ว่าสภาพอากาศจะเป็นอย่างไรก็ตาม

การทดสอบเป็นไปด้วยดี ผมคิดว่าปัญหาใหญ่ที่สุดของเราคือโรงแรมที่ไม่มีอาหารเช้าที่เช้าพอสำหรับเวลาที่เราต้องการ! หลังจากจบการทดสอบ คาร์ลอสและผมขึ้นเครื่องบินลำเดียวกันไปโมนาโก ที่ที่เป็นที่อยู่ของเราทั้งสองคน ดังนั้นเราไม่ใช่แค่เพื่อนร่วมทีม แต่ยังเป็นเพื่อนบ้านอีกด้วย
เราไม่ได้อยู่ที่นั่นนาน เพราะเราต้องบินกลับมาที่อังกฤษเพื่องานเปิดตัวทีมวิลเลียมส์ฤดูกาล 2025 ที่พวกเราประกาศพาร์ตเนอร์ใหม่ของเราที่มีชื่อว่า Atlassian เป็นสปอนเซอร์ใหญ่ของทีม และเป็นสิ่งดีที่เราได้เห็นพาร์ตเนอร์กับแบรนด์ในช่วงที่ F1 กำลังเติบโตขึ้นอย่างรวดเร็ว
ออกจากสนามแข่งไป พวกคุณบางคนอาจจะได้เห็นงานเปิดฤดูกาลของศึก F1 เนื่องในโอกาสครบรอบ 75 ฤดูกาล อีเวนต์ขนาดใหญ่ที่ลอนดอน ที่มีทั้ง 10 ทีม รถ 10 คัน และนักแข่ง 20 คนเข้าร่วม
ภายในงานมีพรมแดงพร้อมกับสื่อมวลชนและช่างภาพ พร้อมกับแฟนๆ อีก 15,000 คนใน O2 อารีนา เป็นประสบการณ์ที่บ้ามาก ผมไม่เคยทำอะไรแบบนี้มาก่อน และเป็นสิ่งที่ใหม่มากสำหรับผม เพราะผมต้องเดินพรมแดง ผมตัดสินใจที่จะขอสไตลิสต์มาช่วยเลือกชุด เพราะที่ผ่านมาสูทเดียวที่ผมเคยใส่คือ ชุดแข่ง หรือ Racing Suits ดังนั้นผมจึงไม่มีความรู้เลยว่าต้องเลือกชุดอะไร แต่ผมก็ชอบชุดของผม และพวกคุณคิดว่าชุดผมเป็นอย่างไรบ้าง
เราไม่มีเวลาที่จะได้เจอหรือพูดคุยกับแฟนๆ ภายในช่วงเวลาทำงาน ดังนั้นเป็นสิ่งที่ดีมากที่ F1 จัดอะไรแบบนี้ ผมหวังว่าเราจะสามารถทำอะไรที่ใหญ่แบบนี้ได้ในประเทศไทย แต่หวังว่าในอนาคตเราจะมีไทยแลนด์กรังด์ปรีซ์ และเราก็จะสามารถจัดกิจกรรมที่สนุกและตื่นเต้นได้เต็มไปหมด แต่กว่าจะถึงวันนั้น ผมอยากจะจัดงาน Meet and Greet กับพวกคุณครั้งต่อไปที่ผมไปประเทศไทย ผมจะแจ้งรายละเอียดเร็วๆ นี้ และหวังว่าพวกคุณจะสามารถมาร่วมได้
เช้าหลังวันงาน F1 Live ผมบินไปดูไบเพื่อไปเจอกับ ลิลลี่ (Muni He) แฟนสาวของผม เป็นโอกาสยากมากที่จะได้เจอกับลิลลี่ เพราะผมมีเวลาว่างเพียงไม่กี่วันในตารางของผม ลิลลี่อยู่ที่ดูไบเพื่อเตรียมพร้อมสำหรับทัวร์นาเมนต์กอล์ฟ และด้วยตารางการเดินทางของเรา ไม่มีโอกาสบ่อยนักที่เราจะอยู่ในที่เดียวกันพร้อมกัน
ผมคิดว่าเราคงอยู่ในความรักความสัมพันธ์แบบ Long-Distance Relationship แต่เราก็สามารถทำให้ประสบความสำเร็จได้ และด้วยการที่เราเป็นนักกีฬาทั้งคู่ หมายความว่าเราต่างก็เข้าใจโลกของกันและกัน นี่เป็นสิ่งที่ดีมาก และผมยังชอบการได้ออกจากโลกของ F1 บางครั้ง และใช้ชีวิตอยู่ในโลกกีฬากอล์ฟของลิลลี่ รวมถึงสิ่งที่เธอต้องรับมือหรือทำอยู่ ลิลลี่เริ่มต้นปีได้อย่างดีเยี่ยมบนสนามกอล์ฟ เธอเล่นได้ดีมาก แต่น่าเสียดายที่ฝีมือการเล่นกอล์ฟของผมไม่ได้พัฒนาขึ้นบ้างเลย!
กลับมาที่การแข่งขัน วางไม้กอล์ฟลง และหยิบหมวกกันน็อกกลับขึ้นมาใส่
หลังจากดูไบ เป็นช่วงการบินระยะสั้นไปสู่บาห์เรน สำหรับการพรีซีซันเทสต์อย่างเป็นทางการ เป็นการขับทดสอบ 3 วันด้วยจำนวนรอบมากที่สุดเท่าที่จะทำได้ เพื่อให้ทีมเก็บสะสมข้อมูลว่ารถมีการตอบสนองอย่างไร และเราสามารถดึงศักยภาพออกมาได้มากน้อยแค่ไหน
ผมคงบอกอะไรมากไม่ได้เพราะเราอยู่ในช่วงเริ่มต้น แต่การทดสอบเป็นไปด้วยดี ผมคิดว่าเรามีพัฒนาการที่ดีขึ้นในปีที่แล้ว และตอนนี้การทดสอบจบลงแล้ว ผมมีเวลา 16 วันในการเตรียมไปสู่การแข่งขันเรซแรกของปีที่ออสเตรเลีย มีใครจะเดินทางไปที่นั่น หรือรับชมจากไทยบ้างไหมครับ?

Sawasdee kup everyone. I’m back with my next journal and have plenty to update you with! I have been reading all your messages and comments after my first journal, thanks for reading and supporting me on the journey together this year! Please keep your messages coming!
Since my last journal, I have finally been able to get back out on the racetrack and drive a Formula 1 car again. The off-season during the winter is quite short, but it feels like a long time that you are out of the car, so it’s really good to get practising on-track again and refresh the memory, muscles, and get back up to speed. My team Atlassian Williams Racing organised a test in an older F1 car for me and my new teammate Carlos Sainz, so I flew to Barcelona with my manager Jacques and my performance coach Patrick. It was nice to get the band back together again and get back to work. It was so cold, but my coach is a crazy Irishman who will always wear shorts, no matter the weather. Look here!
The test was really good, I think the biggest issue we faced was the hotel didn’t open breakfast early enough! Once our test finished Carlos and I shared a plane home together to Monaco, which is where we both live, so not only are we teammates but also neighbours.
We weren’t there for long though, as we had to come back to the UK for William’s 2025 season launch, where they announced our new team partner, Atlassian. It’s a huge sponsorship for the team and it’s encouraging to see brands partnering us off the back of F1 growing so rapidly in popularity.
Away from the racing side, some of you might have seen Formula 1 launch their 75th season with a big live event in London where all 10 teams, 10 cars and 20 drivers attended. There was a red carpet with media and photographers, plus 15,000 fans in the O2 arena. It was crazy! I’ve never done anything like that, it was a totally new experience for me. Because I was going to be walking a red carpet, I decided to ask a stylist to help pick out my outfit. The only suits I’m used to wearing are racing suits, so I have no idea what I’m doing when it comes to picking clothes and outfits. I really liked my outfit – let me know what you guys think?
We don’t get much time to really see or speak with the fans at events, so it was cool for F1 to do something like this. I wish we could do something that big in Thailand, but hopefully in the future we will have a Thai Grand Prix and then we can organise loads of cool and fun things. But until then, I want to organise another meet and greet with you all next time I am in Thailand, I will share details soon and hopefully you can make it.
The morning after F1 75, I flew to Dubai to see my girlfriend, Lily (Muni He). It was a rare chance to see her as I had a few days free in my schedule. She was in Dubai getting ready for a golf competition and with our travel schedules, it’s not often we can be in the same place at the same time. I guess we have a long-distance relationship, but we make it work, and with us both being sportspeople it means we understand each other’s worlds. It’s nice, and I also like to disconnect from F1 sometimes and just live in her world of golf and what she’s dealing with or working on. She’s had a great start to this year on the golf course, she’s playing really well, unfortunately my golf game doesn’t seem to be improving though!
Back to racing now and putting the golf clubs down, and picking the crash helmet up.
After Dubai, it was a short flight to Bahrain for the first official pre-season tests. It’s 3 days of driving as many laps as possible for teams to collect data and information on how the car is behaving, and how much performance we can get out of it. I won’t say too much as it’s very early, but the test went well. I think we have definitely made progress on last year, and now the test is over, I have 16 days to prepare for the first race of the year – Australia.
