สวัสดีครับทุกคน! ก่อนที่ผมจะเริ่มบันทึกนักแข่งของผม ผมอยากจะขอส่งความห่วงใย และกำลังใจให้กับทุกคนที่ได้รับผลกระทบจากเหตุการณ์แผ่นดินไหวที่เพิ่งเกิดขึ้นนะครับ

 

ตอนที่เกิดเหตุ ผมกำลังจะลงจากเครื่องบินที่ท่าอากาศยานสุวรรณภูมิ ในตอนนั้น ลิลลี่ (มูนี่เหอ) แฟนสาวของผมอยู่ที่กรุงเทพมหานคร เพื่อรอผมที่กำลังจะถึง นี่เป็นประสบการณ์ที่เหนือจริงมาก และในระหว่างที่เราโชคดีที่ไม่ได้รับผลกระทบก็ยังมีอีกหลายคนที่ได้รับผลกระทบอย่างหนัก ผมจึงอยากขอส่งความห่วงใย และกำลังใจให้กับทุกคนที่กำลังฟื้นตัวจากเหตุการณ์ครั้งนี้ สู้ๆ ครับ

 

นอกจากเหตุการณ์แผ่นดินไหวแล้ว ผมได้รับประสบการณ์ที่ยอดเยี่ยมมากที่ประเทศไทย…บ้านของผม แม้ว่าจะเป็นช่วงเวลาสั้นๆ ระหว่างการแข่งขันที่จีนและญี่ปุ่นก็ตาม 

 

ศึกฟอร์มูลาวันฤดูกาลนี้อัดแน่นมาก เราต้องเดินทางอย่างต่อเนื่องบนเครื่องบิน ดังนั้นการที่สามารถใช้เวลาได้หลายวันในกรุงเทพมหานครกับครอบครัว แฟนๆ และผู้สนับสนุน จึงเป็นสิ่งที่พิเศษมากๆ และไม่มีที่ไหนเหมือนบ้านเลยจริงๆ

 

ถ้าคุณกำลังอ่านบันทึกนี้อยู่ คุณอาจจะเป็นหนึ่งในคนเกือบพันที่มาร่วมทักทายผมที่สยามพารากอน เราจัดงาน Meet & Greet กับแฟนๆ ในกรุงเทพมหานครเมื่อสัปดาห์ที่ผ่านมา มันเป็นประสบการณ์ที่ยอดเยี่ยม และรู้สึกดีใจที่ได้เห็นพวกคุณหลายคนมาที่นั่น พร้อมกับปากกาขอลายเซ็นและกล้องถ่ายรูป 

 

เราคุ้นเคยกับแฟนๆ กลุ่มใหญ่หลายคนระหว่างการแข่งขันฟอร์มูลาวัน แต่ผมยอมรับว่าผมรู้สึกตกใจเป็นอย่างมากกับการต้อนรับที่ล้นหลามจากพวกคุณทุกคนที่นั่น ผมรู้สึกขอบคุณการสนับสนุน และทุกคนที่เดินไปพร้อมๆ กับผมบนเส้นทางเดียวกันในปีนี้! การเดินทางอย่างต่อเนื่องของเราทำให้กระเป๋าของผมเต็มแล้ว แต่เราก็ยังสามารถบรรจุของขวัญที่น่าประทับใจจากพวกคุณได้อยู่ ขอบคุณมากครับ! 

 

 

ระหว่างที่ผมอยู่ในกรุงเทพมหานคร ผมรู้สึกเป็นเกียรติที่ได้เข้าพบกับนายกรัฐมนตรี แพทองธาร ชินวัตร และพูดคุยเกี่ยวกับอนาคตของการแข่งขันฟอร์มูลาวันกรังด์ปรีซ์ในไทย รวมไปถึงแง่มุมที่ดีของการนำพากีฬาชนิดนี้มาสู่ประเทศ และสู่ประชาชนในประเทศ 

 

ในฐานะนักแข่ง แน่นอนว่าผมต้องมีมุมมองที่ลำเอียงอยู่บ้าง แต่ผมเชื่อมั่นว่าโฮมเรซจะเป็นอีเวนต์ที่ยอดเยี่ยมมากสำหรับประเทศไทย เพื่อที่จะแสดงให้ทั่วโลกได้เห็นว่าประเทศของเรางดงามแค่ไหน เรามีสิ่งที่ดีงามมากมาย ทั้ง อาหาร และสถานที่ต่างๆ ที่พร้อมจะแสดงให้ผู้คนได้พบเห็นและสนุกไปด้วยกัน 

 

ผมหวังว่าการแข่งขันจะเกิดขึ้น เพราะผมมีแพสชันที่อยากจะให้ความรู้ และสร้างโอกาสจากการที่เราได้มีโฮมเรซ ตอนที่ผมเติบโตขึ้นมา ที่เดียวในโลกที่ช่วยให้ผมพัฒนาศักยภาพการเป็นนักแข่งคือในยุโรป เพราะที่นั่นเป็นสถานที่ที่มีวิศวกร, ทีมช่าง, ทีมโกคาร์ต และสนามแข่งครบครัน

 

ผมอยากให้เกิดการเปลี่ยนแปลง เพื่อให้คนไทยได้รับโอกาสเหล่านั้นโดยที่ไม่ต้องย้ายประเทศ และหวังว่าการมีฟอร์มูลาวันในไทย เราจะสร้างโอกาสเหล่านั้นให้กับคนไทยรุ่นต่อไปที่มีศักยภาพได้ เพื่อให้เยาวชนทุกคนที่มีความฝันสามารถไล่ล่าความฝันได้ในทุกวัน จนกว่าพวกเขาจะสามารถทำตามความฝันได้สำเร็จ

 

 

ตอนที่ผมไม่ได้ทำงาน ผมใช้เวลากับลิลลี่และครอบครัว วันหนึ่งเราเล่นกอล์ฟที่สโมสรราชพฤกษ์ ผมตีได้ทั้งช็อตที่ดีและแย่ แต่ก็ไม่ใช่การออกรอบที่แย่ที่สุดสำหรับผม 

 

การเล่นกอล์ฟกับลิลลี่เป็นสิ่งที่น่าหงุดหงิด เพราะเธอทำให้ทุกอย่างดูง่ายไปหมด เราไปกินข้าวเย็นกันหลังจากนั้น พร้อมกับเพื่อนร่วมงาน ผมมีช่วงเวลาที่ดีโดยเฉพาะการได้เห็น Loes จากทีมครีเอทีฟและโซเชียลมีเดีย สามารถรับมือกับรสเผ็ดร้อนของอาหารได้ แต่เธอก็ยังต้องพัฒนาอีกอยู่ดี

 

 

ขณะที่ Jacques ผู้จัดการของผมมาถึงกรุงเทพมหานคร และเราออกเดินทางด้วยเฮลิคอปเตอร์ไปยังหัวหิน เพื่อไปหาพาร์ตเนอร์ของผมอย่าง Monsoon Valley ทาง Jacques รับมือกับอากาศยานขนาดเล็กได้ไม่ค่อยดีนัก ดังนั้นผมจึงรอดูว่าเขาจะรับมือกับการบินเป็นเวลา 50 นาทีนี้ได้อย่างไรบ้าง แต่สุดท้ายเขาก็ทำได้…อย่างน้อยนั่นคือสิ่งที่เขาบอกกับผมนะ 

 

 

Monsoon Valley กำลังทำงานกับไร่องุ่นของพวกเขาอย่างน่าตื่นเต้น หากพวกคุณมีโอกาสลองไปเยี่ยมชมดูสักครั้ง เพราะมีอะไรหลายอย่างให้ลองทำ และเชื่อว่าจะได้รับประสบการณ์ที่ดีจากที่นั่น เรากำลังทำอะไรบางอย่างร่วมกันด้วย และจะเปิดตัวภายในปีนี้ ดังนั้นรอติดตามได้เลย

 

 

ขอตัดมาที่วันนี้ (ตอนที่ผมเขียน) ผมเพิ่งเดินทางถึงบาห์เรน ด้วยการบินมาจากญี่ปุ่น เพื่อเตรียมพร้อมสำหรับเรซต่อไปในช่วงสุดสัปดาห์ เราออกสตาร์ทกันได้อย่างดีเยี่ยมในศึกฟอร์มูลาวันฤดูกาลนี้ ดังนั้นผมมีความสุข และภูมิใจมากที่การทำงานอย่างหนักตลอดมาจากเบื้องหลังของพวกเราได้รับผลตอบแทนที่ดี 

 

ปีที่ผ่านมา ผมทำคะแนนตลอดฤดูกาลได้ 17 แต้ม แต่ปีนี้ผมทำไปแล้ว 19 แต้ม และเราเพิ่งผ่านไปแค่ 3 เรซในฤดูกาลนี้ ผมจบอันดับที่ 5, ที่ 7 และที่ 9 ในปีนี้ ซึ่งเป็นการเริ่มต้นที่ดีมาก 

 

ทีม Atlassian Williams ของผมอยู่อันดับที่ 5 ในประเภททีมผู้ผลิต ส่วนผมอยู่อันดับที่ 7 ในประเภทนักแข่ง และอยู่เหนือ ลูอิส แฮมิลตัน ที่ขับให้กับเฟอร์รารีด้วย

 

ปีนี้เรายังอยู่ในช่วงเริ่มต้นของฤดูกาล และยังมีเรซอีกมากที่ต้องแข่งขัน ดังนั้นเป็นสิ่งที่ยากมากที่จะรักษาตำแหน่งของเรา แต่เราต้องเดินหน้าอย่างเต็มที่ และทำทุกอย่างที่เราสามารถทำได้เพื่อให้เราอยู่ในจุดที่แข็งแกร่งที่สุดเท่าที่จะเป็นไปได้

 

 

เรื่องตลกคือผมได้เดิมพันกับแพทริก โค้ชด้าน Performance ของผมว่า ถ้าผมจบ P5 เขาจะยอมย้อมเคราของเขาเอง และเขามีเคราที่หนาและดกมาก ผมรู้ว่าเขาไม่ตื่นเต้นกับสิ่งนี้เท่าไรนัก แต่แน่นอนว่าผมตื่นเต้นมาก อย่างไรก็ตามผมยังต้องการคำแนะนำจากพวกคุณว่า เราควรจะย้อมเคราของเขาเป็นสีอะไรดี คอมเมนต์มาบอกผมด้วยนะครับ!

Sawasdee kup everyone! Before I start this journal, I want to send my thoughts andprayers to everyone affected in the region by the recent earthquake. I was just about to land at Suvarnabhumi airport when the earthquake happened, whereas my girlfriend Lily was already in Bangkok waiting for me to arrive. It was a very surreal experience and whilst we were fortunate not to be affected, a lot of people have suffered and my thoughts go out to everyone that is still recovering. Su su!

 

Despite the earthquake, it was amazing to be back home in Thailand, even if it was a short trip between my races in China and Japan. The Formula 1 season is so compact and busy, we are always travelling and on airplanes, so it was super special to be able to spend a few days in Bangkok with my family, fans and sponsors. There’s nothing like home.

 

If you’re reading this, then you might be one of the thousands of people that came to say hello at Siam Paragon, where we hosted a fan meet and greet in Bangkok last week. It was incredible, and really overwhelming to see so many of you there in the crowds with your autograph pens and cameras. We are used to big crowds and events in F1, but honestly I was blown away by the reception and how many of you were there. I really appreciate your support and for being with me on this journey together this year! Being on the road so much, my suitcase was already pretty full but somehow we managed to fit and pack all of the amazing gifts you gave me.

Whilst in Bangkok, I had the honour to meet Her Excellency, Paetongtarn

 

Shinawatra, to talk about a future Formula 1 Grand Prix in Thailand, and the positive role that sport can play in bringing a country, and people together. As a racing driver, I am obviously biased but I really believe that a home race will be an amazing event for Thailand to show the rest of the world the beauty of our country. We have so many amazing things, foods, and places for people to see and enjoy.

 

I really hope the race goes ahead as I am also passionate about the educational and employment opportunities it will present. When I was growing up, the only place in the world for me to develop my racing skills was in Europe, as that’s where the best mechanics, engineers, karting teams, and racetracks are. I want that to change so that people in Thailand have opportunities without having to relocate, and hopefully with a race in Bangkok, we can create those opportunities for the next generation of Thai talent. Every young person should have a dream and chase that dream every day until they achieve it.

 

 

When I wasn’t ‘working’, I was hanging out with Lily and my family. We played golf one day at Rajpruek Club, I had good shots and bad, but it wasn’t my worst round. It’s frustrating playing with Lily as she makes it look so easy! We went for dinner afterwards and some of my colleagues joined us so I had fun seeing how Loes, from my social and creative team, could handle the spice and heat. She has work to do in that area!

 

 

My manager Jacques then arrived in Bangkok and we took a helicopter to Huahin to visit my partner Monsoon Valley. Jacques isn’t the best on small aircraft so I was looking forward to seeing how he dealt with the 50-minute flight. To my surprise, he was fine! At least that’s what he told me…

 

 

Monsoon Valley are doing some really cool work at their vineyard, you should definitely check it out as there is lots to do and experience there. We are releasing something super cool later this year which I’m excited to share with you, so watch this space!

 

 

Fast forward to today, and I’ve just landed in Bahrain from Japan for the next race this weekend. It’s been a super strong start to this F1 season so I am really happy and proud that the hard work we have been doing behind-the-scenes is paying off. Last year, we scored a total of 17 points throughout the whole season, whereas this year, we have already scored 19 points and we are only three races into the season. I have finished P5, P7 and P9 this year which is really promising.

 

My team Atlassian Williams is fifth in the constructors’ championship whereas I am seventh in the driver standings and just ahead of Sir Lewis Hamilton, who drives for Ferrari this year. It is still very early in the season and there are a lot of races yet to go, so it is going to be difficult to keep hold of our championship positions, but we are pushing flat out and doing everything we can to be as strong as possible.

 

 

What’s funny is I have an old bet with Patrick, my performance coach, whereby if I finish a race in P5, he has to bleach his beard, and he has a very big beard! I know he’s not looking forward to it, of course I am, but I need your suggestions on what colour we should bleach it. Let me know in the comments!
