BANGKOK (July 30) – Wan Muhamad Noor Matha, Speaker of the House of Representatives of Thailand and President of the Thai Parliament, in his capacity as President of the Thai National Group in the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), addressed the situation on the Thai-Cambodian border. He expressed disappointment and deep regret to learn that, during the high-level parliamentary meeting in Geneva this week, Thailand was groundlessly accused by the Speaker of the House of Representatives of Cambodia over the recent border clashes.
The Thai National Assembly totally rejects and strongly condemns the misleading and groundless allegations, which are entirely untrue and contrary to the facts officially stated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Thai Government regarding the incident, including a violation of the ceasefire agreement by Cambodia, which the Thai Government has officially lodged complaints to the ASEAN Chair, the United States, and the People’s Republic of China.
The Thai National Assembly urges Cambodia to refrain from disseminating false or misleading information that distorts the actual situation, creates misunderstanding, and worsens tensions for its own unilateral benefit. Thailand remains firmly committed to the UN Charter, upholds universal humanitarian principles, protects civilian lives and strictly adheres to the ceasefire agreement.
In this connection, I would like to express my deep gratitude to the Chairman of ASEAN and all countries as our alliances in supporting the ceasefire agreement reached on 28th July 2025. Thailand has firmly complied with the agreement. As of now, Cambodia has yet to cease its firing, in violation of the agreement. We therefore urge Cambodia to fully comply with the ceasefire in the same strict manner. We also call upon the ASEAN Chair to establish an international fact-finding observer mission to determine the truth and to jointly explore ways to ensure the effectiveness of the ceasefire agreement.
Lastly, the Thai National Assembly therefore reaffirms our unwavering commitment to ensuring that all parties uphold the rule of law, the accuracy of facts, and the pursuit of peace in full accordance with all agreements. We stand ready to engage in fact-finding efforts for the sustainable benefit of the international community. The Thai National Assembly will submit this statement to the President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union for dissemination among all member states, with the aim of fostering an accurate and truthful understanding of the situation.
